Green Workplace Assessment and
Certification Program

What is the GWACP?
PowerSave Green Campus (PSGC)  started the Green Workplace Assessment Certification (GWAC) program in fall 2011.  The Green Workplace Assessment Certification Program is designed to raise awareness of the Humboldt State faculty and staff community regarding energy efficiency and sustainable practices that can be implemented in their offices. This program aims to create a balance between the work and natural environment through energy improvements and behavior modification. It also aims to motivate campus members to initiate innovative, new solutions to reduce our energy consumption.

How does the checklist work?

The checklist categories which offices are assessed by are: energy, water conservation, recycling & waste management, purchasing, community involvement, transportation, and innovative & creative options. Each category has specific actions that can gain them a certain number of "green points". Some sections contain prerequisites that each office must complete before they can proceed further with the certification program. In addition to the prerequisites, there are a variety of actions that are worth "green points". There are four levels of certification offered from the GWAC Program. Each level is obtained through the total number of green points each office scores on the final checklist. The minimum amount of green points to qualify as Green Workplace Certified is 25 points. The other three levels are Silver (35), Bronze (50), and Gold (65) points for the highest level of certification.
